Water treatment

Whether it comes from rivers, lakes, dams or groundwater, drinking water is an essential element for human life. The adjective "drinking" means water that is pure enough to be consumed by humans.

Water managers must therefore carry out comprehensive tests and guarantee the water quality, from the prospecting phase to the end customer distribution, including treatment and transport stages. Specific changes in water properties to improve its quality are called water treatment. Substances can be removed (eg by purification or desalination) or added. Some parameters can also be modified (for example, adjustment to a given pH value). To do this, we use physical processes (aeration, heat treatment ...), chemical (oxidation, ion exchange or osmosis ...) and biological (biochemical oxidation ...).
